About the Window

The stained glass window pictured in the banner above shows the Diet of Augsburg in 1530. This diet (an assembly of princes and rulers) is one of the high points of the Reformation. The panel depicts the great scene of the presentation to Emperor Charles V and to the world of the foremost Lutheran Confession of faith - the Augsburg Confession - to which Lutherans all over the world subscribe. The Emperor had ordered the Lutherans to prepare a statement of their beliefs. It was written by Philip Melancthon, approved by Martin Luther, and, as the panel shows, read before the Emperor by Dr. Beyer, chancellor of Saxony, on June 25th, 1530.
